This ethnically diverse, mostly residential area is on the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain, which left it open to massive flood damage from Hurricane Katrina. It's still rebuilding its culture and infrastructure years later, but has held on to a fair amount of neighborhood restaurants known for classic New Orleans grub; it also retains one of the more active minor-league baseball fandoms in the country for the beloved New Orleans Baby Cakes.
