Much larger and more diverse than a single neighborhood, Chicago's sprawling South Side encompasses much of the lower half of the city and accounts for the majority of its population—not to mention the majority of its White Sox fans. Generally more working-class than the upscale residential areas of the North Side and the high-powered business areas of downtown, the South Side has suffered most from Chicago's infamously high crime rates.
